[Oracle APEX 4.0] Search application

by Peter van der Neut on December 23, 2009 · 1 comment

Oracle Application Express 4.0 has a new search option, it replaces the current “Find” functionality. The “Find” was not extremely helpful, because it only searched per page and per APEX component (pages, items, plsql etc.). Now the Search application option has turned up in APEX 4.0 and it’s a big improvement.

It basicly creates a google like search for you entire application. Now you don’t have to select what you are looking for, it just searches through every APEX component there is. For this example I created the text my_search_text in several components, in an item help text, a page process, a validation message and a report query. And this is the result:

It presents a list of all the results of my search with a breadcrum of the location in the application. It highlights the searched text and with a view link to jump immediately to the component. As you can see in the screenshot you can select to search case sensitive and if nescessary only for the current page.

The new search functionality is a great improvement and saves a lot of time and effort in searching through your applications.
