New features in Oracle SOA Suite 11g

by Jos Nieuwenhuis on October 2, 2009 · 0 comments

Today’s meeting of Whitehorses’ Integration Team was about the new features of SOA Suite 11g. Compared to SOA Suite 10g the new SOA Suite has a lot of new features:

  • All tools have been integrated into one IDE (JDeveloper 11g), except for OSB which is integrated in Eclipse
  • 11g is based on SCA, which is a different approach to modelling services
  • Oracle’s ESB in 10g is has become the Mediator component.
  • The handling of events is new (more about this will be explained in a future blog post).

Compared to SOA Suite 11g TP4 there are not many differences. The most obvious difference is its integration with WebLogic Server. TP4 was integrated with OC4J.

We expect OSB (formerly called BEA Aqualogic Service Bus) to be integrated into a next release of SOA Suite 11g (R2?). It seems odd to have OSB tooling integrated into Eclipse while other tooling is available in JDeveloper.

We also expect Oracle to stop the development of (Sun’s) NetBeans, since Oracle already has it’s own development environment: JDeveloper. Netbeans will probably be left to the Open Source Community. Of course this is pure speculation…
